Family Ties

We gave one of Brian's friends a ride home after the school concert last night. The friend commented that Gary was the only one in our family who didn't wear glasses. I said, "Yep, Gary got the good genes."

Today I asked Brian if his friends at school knew that Gary was technically his foster brother. Brian said, "No, they think we are half brothers."

"Why?"

"Well, everyone says we don't look alike and I say, 'He takes after his father.'"

  3. I love that answer! You know what is funny though, i bet someday Brian will get told that there is something that he and Gary "look alike" about. My kids and I have actually gotten that and all 4 are adopted, 3 are african american (i am caucasian) and 1 is asian indian!

  4. I think it is a great answer too. I am wondering though about what will be flying through everyone's mind if we go to a school function when Andrew is back in town. There the five us would be. Parents, oldest and youngest son sporting light brown hair and blue-to-green eyes. Middle child standing taller than anyone else, black hair and dark brown eyes they girls go all dreamy over.

Ah well, I guess they will think I was naughty for a while there. I can live with that.

Of course if we have all six boys they will probably think that I temporarily ran off (again) with Carl's dad.

Yeah, I'm okay with that too.

And I VASTLY prefer it to invading Gary's privacy. It is his story.

  5. heh. my younger-by-13-years half-sister has a good relationship with my mom (we share a dad), and when she was little she could never figure out why if her mom was my stepmom, my mom wasn't her stepmom. so sometimes she just referred to her that way. i [heart] confusing family explanations.
