If it's any consolation, this is preparing you for the empty nest syndrome you'll have when Brian and Andrew leave home. At least this kid you know is going with a backup plan... I bless you with the strength to get through the next few weeks, including the week of "I'm so homesick" phonecalls.
my lord he is huge!! he will be fine, they always seem to turn into unreconizable people when they go out away from home!! poor brian, what will he do for entertainment now? something tells me andrew is no fun in the pesky little brother game! take care of you now, and rest for a bit.
I wanted to say one more thing. Jews, and Chassidim in particular, don't say goodbye. We say see you soon or have a safe journey. The unspoken sentiment being that we will cross paths once again, that of course we will see one another again. As part of what we say every Friday night before the meal, "Tzatzchem l'shalom, bochem l'shalom" - "Go in peace, and come back in peace" The idea being that we never really say goodbye. Evan will come back to you - just as Carl has - on his own terms. :D
Comments will be open for a little while, then I will be shutting them off. The blog will stay, but I do not want either to moderate comments or leave the blog available to spammers.
Daughter, sister, wife, mother, foster-parent blog writer, philosophy professor ... I am and have been many things. These days my identities as a teacher of bioethics and the daughter of a woman with Parkinson's and dementia lead me to agree with Peter Singer, "It's different when it's your mother."
